How Zadar

Musical seas and lights in the ground, Zadar is an intriguing destination in ways you’d lest expect. Bizzare, Zadar.

Found an hour and a half north of Split along the Adriatic Coast you’ll find that Zadar is both relaxing and amusing. Having come from a line up of big cities with packed itineraries, Zadar was a place you could slow down and chill out.

It’s an old town thats very walkable and can have it’s sights seen in half a day. Another church, fortress, ruins etc. But what really sets Zadar apart is it’s amazing sunset to the sound of the waves playing the sea organ.

This majestic sight is best observed with a cold cider and some new friends. It’s hard to describe the atmosphere come the afternoon, it’s calm and electric at the same time. The sun is on a mission slowly approaching the water. Everyone watches intensely as if they don’t want to miss a moment. You drift off into a pensive daze lulled by the sporadic tunes played by the organ.

Then the sun slowly dips it’s toes in the water and you know the performance  reaching the climax. As the dives deeper and deeper into the horizon the sky changes into a million different shades of pink, orange and yellow. And when that last glimpse of the sun disappears you almost want to applaud the most beautiful show that was ever created.

You’ll probably read somewhere online that Alfred Hitchcock rated Zadar’s sunset as the best in the world. Sounds legit to me, and I think if you’ve witnessed it, you’d agree.

Apart from the hypnotic sunset, Zadar does have plenty of activities that make it great. You can visit surrounding beaches, islands and National parks. We spent our second day in Zadar chasing waterfalls in Krka National Park.

Krka is almost as majestic as Plitvice Lakes and you can actually swim in the refreshingly cool (freezing cold) water.

So Bizzare Zadar, a great little last stop in Croatia before heading on to Italy.
