Afghanistan
I was heading up to Brisbane on the weekend to see some school friends for dinner, finally. The video chat calls just aren’t my thing. So I decided this was a great opportunity to take advantage of the variety of cultures represented in the capital of Queensland. It had to be something pretty obscure that I couldn’t find on the coast. So Afghani was the choice. There is just one Afghani restaurant on the Gold Coast and not close to home. We ordered Kabuli Pallow (chicken rice with nuts and raisins), Palak Perikee (spinach flat bread), Mantu (beef dumplings), Banjan Boranee (eggplant with yogurt) as well as salad and naan on the side. It reminded me of my Persian cooking all the way at the beginning of my travels. So delicious! The beef dumplings came smothered in a great lentil sauce, a great surprise. Everything was very filling for the three of us as well. Definitely venture the Afghani cuisine if you get the chance.
