Like cartoons? Interested in toilet humour? Then Brussels is calling you home. At fist glance Brussels may appear to be your average city. However, on closer examination you will find the many quirks that makes Brussels a unique and fun-loving place. You get the idea that locals don’t and can’t take themselves too seriously. I’m sure they get a huge kick out of the fact that their main tourist attraction is a miniature statue taking a piss (to put it un-delicately). I’d love to know who the mastermind was behind the whole operation and whether they are pissing themselves laughing that hundreds flock to take their picture with the mischievous little fella every day.
Walking around Brussels is like being in a comic book, there is a little surprise around every corner. If just strolling the streets doesn’t quench your thirst for comics then the comic book museum; The Comic Strip Center, ought to do the trick. The building you’ll find it in is worth visiting for the structure itself. Then immerse yourself in the likes of Tin Tin, The Smurfs and of course Asterix.
After all of that ‘educational research’ you might be feeling keen for a feed. Lucky for you Brussels is full of modern quality eateries. I satisfied my ramen craving at Umamido and did not regret a single mouthful. Usually I strictly stick to local cuisine, but after almost five months of traveling I was ready to change it up. Besides, when Belguim is known for it’s fries, chocolate and beer, I figure it doesn’t hurt to eat something of substance.
