UK Road-trip

Scotland, Wales and the Great Britain itself. Love a solid road trip through the country side. It’s always nice when they speak the same language too… although the Scottish accent is at times undecipherable. From Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye, through to Glasgow, the Lakes region, Snowdonia and Cornwall. There were castles, climbs, hikes, Peter Rabbits, whisky distilleries, scones and a cuppa (or two), but unfortunately no Loch Ness.

In fact, visiting the Loch Ness was quite a bizarre experience. I had conjured up visions of setting out on a cold, miserable and drizzly day to go in search of Nessie. We would sail out on the rugged high seas and battle against the onslaught in the form of rain and wind. We would scan the tumultuous waters catching glimpses of what could be the beast taunting us between waves. Then we would return, drenched, yet satisfied with our attempt and cheers to our success with hot tea in hand. Well, that was what I had envisioned… But in reality we had a gorgeous sunny day, not a cloud in the sky and every thing was all very pleasant, too pleasant. Sadly the sun dashed my dreams of my Loch Ness hunt. Probably the one ever time a gloomy day would be welcomed on a holiday, go figure.

Other honorable mentions go to the climb to see ‘Old Man of Storr’ and the general Isle of Skye region, Windermere in the Lakes District (beware very touristy), Hiking the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, forest of left behind stuff and a trip to the sea side in St. Ives, Cornwall. Dishonorable mention goes to Stone Hedge. Seems to me to be a waste of time and money to actually stop and enter. We were able to see it from the highway as we drove back to London.
