Budapest is best

I’ve been asking a lot of travellers what their favourite place has been on their trip. A common answer I get is Budapest. The funny thing is no one can exactly explain why. So I was pretty excited to visit Budapest myself. I can’t say that it’s my favourite, but I can definitely see why many say it’s the best.

So here are some of the best things about Budapest:

  • The Atmosphere: We arrived late into Budapest but the nightlife had only just begun. The place was buzzing and people are out and about enjoying themselves until the early hours of the morning. Even during the day there is a cool atmosphere. Maybe it’s the new found freedom or maybe it’s just the way of life. Either way I think this is what people try to explain when they are explaining why they love it so much.

  • Affordablity: Hungary is another one of those countries that is extremely affordable. 1AUS is roughly equivalent to 205HUF so you are able to feel like you’re rich. There are some great markets to pick up a bargain too.

  • The Hipness Factor: Budapest is really cool. It has loads of hip shops, bars and cafes. The most popular bar is found in old ruins called Szimpla. It’s incredible. I went along to the Sunday morning markets they are a must do.

  • It’s Beautiful: The views from the castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion are spectacular. But, I’ll let you in on a secret, the vews from the Liberty Statue (yes that’s right) are even better. Worth the walk.

  • It’s Clean: Budapest is a fairly clean place and a place to get clean. It is known for it’s many thermal baths. They have become quite the attraction for tourists. There are a couple to choose from and range from more traditional to more modern. It’s a great place to go to relax and people watch. You’ll find a mix of people from young to old. You may even find some old mates in their speedos playing chess. My recommendation is to go in the colder months when you can appreciate the warm water.

  • The food: As always food is important. I had some hit and miss meals in Budapest. But one place you really do need to try is Bors Gastro Bar. They are friendly and chat as the work, all the sub sandwiches are Star Wars themed too if that helps. Delicious sandwiches and awesome soups. The menu changes, but if you’re lucky you might be able to order a snickers soup too. Unfortunately while being tasty, they were too ugly to feature.
